Does it matter that many conservatives are riled by what they call liberal environmental and anti-military messages?
Some see racist theme in alien adventure ‘Avatar’ (AP)
– Near the end of the hit film “Avatar,” the villain snarls at the hero, “How does it feel to betray your own race?” Both men are white — although the hero is inhabiting a blue-skinned, 9-foot-tall, long-tailed alien.
Strange as it may seem for a film that pits greedy, immoral humans against noble denizens of a faraway moon, “Avatar” is being criticized by a small but vocal group of people who allege it contains racist themes — the white hero once again saving the primitive natives.
Since the film opened to widespread critical acclaim three weeks ago, hundreds of blog posts, newspaper articles, tweets and YouTube videos have said things such as the film is “a fantasy about race told from the point of view of white people” and that it reinforces “the white Messiah fable.”
The film’s writer and director, James Cameron, says the real theme is about respecting others’ differences. MORE HERE
Avatar Racist! Claim Conservatives!
So what’s new? Whenever there’s anything that comes to light exposing the evils of greed and the exaltation of Nature, out come the Conservative Gormandizers to stamp it out. It’s as though they can only view life as a mercenary deal and Nature a commodity.
“Avatar” was one of those rare movies laying message that maybe there is a better way to live life. The theme, to me anyhow, was to feel all life as one, interconnected and only as strong as its weakest point. If we could think all life adjoined it would make our Earth experience so superior.
But unfortunately “Avatar” is fantasy. Our living planet is violent and the food chain quite harsh with most life forms enslaved by instincts. Humans could lift themselves from the instinct to kill (mainly for profit) but HOLY CONSERVATIVE, BATMAN, there’s no lucre in that. So a bitter road we travel. But once in awhile an entertainment piece comes out that lifts us from this burdensome quandary, momentarily. AND THE GREEDY BASTARDS STOMP TO PUT IT DOWN! thinkingblue
